Gratitude and Expectations

The first thing I want to share with you is my gratitude. I am so thankful for every person who has prayed me here safely. By the time you read this article, I will have been in Romania for at least one month. As I am writing, I am beginning my second week and spent much of the first week getting settled in and reacquainted with everyone.

I am living with three girls who have graduated from the Youth Transition Program, in an apartment with two rooms and I share a room with one of the girls.

I am thankful for the opportunity to be a part of this ministry and excited to see what God has in store for the lives of these young teens. I have had meetings with several of the Bread of Life staff members about where I can be of most help to the ministry. One of these places will be to help teach English to those in the Youth Transition Program. Having the ability to communicate in English is an essential skill for many people from other countries. Another area will be to fill the role of mentor to girls in the youth transition program. I will also be traveling with mission teams to the orphanage as they come to Romania and assisting the BOL team with their communications to ministry donors.

Last week, I was allowed to share the story of what first led me to Romania with the church I will be attending while here, and how God has now brought me back. I am eager to get to know more people from this community. Since my first trip in 2013 every time I step into the Good News Church they welcome me with lots of hugs, smiles, and ‘Hello, how are you?’s. These people know how to make someone feel very welcomed and loved.

It is so good to be back here with the youth of Bread of Life, and it is good to now call Bucharest home. I’m just a short walk down the street from the Youth Transition Program apartments, which is much closer than a long plane ride across the ocean. I can’t wait to continue building relationships with the youth, as well as the kids at the orphanage in Brosteni. There are so many new little kids at the orphanage; it is good to see that as the kids at the orphanage grow-up and move to Bucharest, Bread of Life is continuing to help other children in need. Thank you all for your prayers, and I am looking forward to seeing what God has in store for this ministry.

Every day, elderly men and women in the Broșteni, Romania area who have no one to care for them receive a hot meal delivered right to their door. Along with the food comes a warm greeting, a listening ear, and a helping hand from Iosif, who faithfully travels nearly 15 kilometers by bicycle each day, regardless of the weather. For the elderly he visits, the meal meets a practical need, but the visit itself often means even more. It is a reminder that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten. What makes these daily visits especially meaningful is the story of the young man making them.

A Double Joy
