Prayer Box

In one of my trips to the United States, I went to visit a small church that has dedicatedly supported the children we serve in Romania through Bread of Life programs. For many years the people in this congregation have partnered faithfully with us to bless the body, mind, and souls of the poor, little, or old. It was a unique moment to receive a warm hug from an elderly couple that has known of me for almost two decades. I will never forget that passionate hug, just like the one a grandpa gives his grandchildren. We all laughed as they said they knew me when I had hair :)).
Fellowshipping with our brothers and sisters in Christ is always a strong encouragement. It helps me, and I share this with our BOL team. We are never alone in this ministry but surrounded and part of the great body of Christ.

When talking with a specialist in nonprofit management and marketing, I shared with him about our monthly financial need and the number of people that support us every year. His reaction was direct and sincere: “Let me put it this way; God is taking care of you guys.” Hearing his remark reminded me “Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God is stronger than men.” 1 Cor 1:25 (KJV)
Further down in that same chapter we read “That, according as it is written, He that glorieth, let him glory in the Lord.” 1 Cor 1:31 (KJV). We want always to remember this fact. There is nothing that we can boast of other than God’s amazing grace to sustain our efforts through your support. We want to use this moment to recognize the role you play in the body of Christ and the role you play in Bread of Life and thank you and bless you for all that you do.

We do not consider you to be just the resource of the children’s stability, but friends and partners. We know that you too have needs and struggles. Difficult moments in your family, at your job or in your church, we would like to do something for you. Together with the staff and children at the BOL, we want to pray for you. We have created a special “Prayer Box” where we want to put all your special prayer requests and bring these in prayer before our heavenly Father. We desire to be there for you in prayer. with the children and the staff.

Please take a moment and email us at contact@bolorpahanage.org with your prayer requests. For the entire year of 2019, we will bring these in prayer before God. We are looking forward to finding out how God has blessed you and helped you overcome your struggles.

Winter in our region is long and bitterly cold. Snow, ice, and freezing temperatures make even the simple walk to school difficult — especially for children who only have thin summer shoes. At Bread of Life Children’s Home, we are dedicated to meeting the daily needs of the children in our care. During the winter months, heating, utilities, and food become urgent priorities. At times, because of these pressing expenses, replacing personal items like clothing or shoes must wait. Yet even in these moments, we see God working quietly behind the scenes.

In northeastern Romania, in Botoșani County, winter does not ask if anyone is ready. It comes suddenly and harshly, with long nights and a cold that seeps into the bones. For many elderly people in isolated villages, each day is a silent struggle — with the cold, with scarcity, with loneliness. Pensions are small, help is rare, and the silence inside their homes feels heavier than the frost outside. In Baranca, Hudești commune, we entered a home that has stayed with us. An almost 80-year-old man, struggling to stay mobile and weakened by illness, lives in very difficult conditions. Yet he is not alone — he cares for his 50-year-old son with a disability, completely dependent on him. A frail father who can barely move continues to carry the weight of caring for his child.

In March, spring begins to appear across America. Days grow longer. Temperatures rise. But in Eastern Europe, winter often lingers — and this year it has been one of the longest and harshest in recent memory. As winter stretches on, the hardest reality sets in. Food reserves are gone. Firewood is nearly finished. Strength is fading. What should be a season of transition instead becomes a test of endurance.
