Bread of Life Children’s Home

For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power,
love and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7

Many theories are going around now about this pandemic and how we should react to it. Most of them taken to the extreme result in fear, panic, or unwise boldness, and these tendencies reach all across the globe, even to the little town of Brosteni, Romania. Some perspectives are due to change as the affected circle of people we know tightens, affecting people in your town, your acquaintances, and eventually your family or yourself. We also have been affected by this as part of our BOL Team, and myself somehow caught the virus and had to isolate ourselves. We thank God that though we have had some common sickness in the children at the BOL Home, none have tested positive for the virus.

The local authorities consider putting Brosteni in lockdown again for 14 days, and we believe this is only the beginning of a long period of isolation for us. Currently, food is still delivered, and the children can attend school online, but we have reasons to believe that this situation will linger for months to come. You should see the hustle and bustle in the mornings as the staff tries to help little ones insert links and codes for different school subjects, which is quite a challenge for the provincial non-technical Brosteni educational system.

We desire to bless the children with decent living conditions and sufficient food and warmth for the cold winter months ahead through our Matching Funds Project. We are thankful to God for keeping us so far and trust that He will help us meet the needs ahead of us. The pandemic added a significant strain on our limited budget with extra expenses for more staff, hygiene supplies, masks, protection kits, more food, and more wood to burn as the children are now inside 24/7. We encourage you to pray about helping us carry the burden of raising the children in the BOL Children’s Home as we enter 2021.

For many of us, the word “graduation” brings to mind robes, diplomas, and proud family photos. But for the teenagers who are part of the Bread of Life family, this moment is so much more. It marks a profound achievement, a courageous transition into adulthood, and a first real step toward independence. Their determination inspires us and fills us with joy and pride.

Each fall, children approach the first day of school with nervous anticipation or eager excitement. As a child, I loved school. I remember preparing with a list in hand, carefully choosing pencils and notebooks. We weren’t wealthy, but my parents always found a way. Sadly, many children in Romania don’t get to experience that joy. For them, choosing school supplies or packing a backpack is out of reach. Without basic tools, some can’t attend school at all—missing the education that could shape their future.
