Investing in Lives That Will Outlive Us

A Romanian saying goes: “Small children, small problems. Big children, big problems. If you are a parent—or have ever helped raise a child—you know how true this is.
In the early years, the needs feel simple. But as children grow, so do the responsibilities and the costs. The emotional weight deepens. The decisions become more complex. Raising children stretches your time, your energy, your patience—and often your finances.
There are moments when it feels overwhelming. Moments when the constant needs—food, bills, school, clothing—begin to feel like a cycle that never ends. And if we’re honest, it’s easy to begin seeing these things as expenses... burdens... responsibilities that we hope will one day become lighter.

But what if we’re looking at it the wrong way?
What if every sacrifice you make for your child is not just a cost—but an investment into a future you cannot fully see yet? Now imagine that reality multiplied—every single day.
At the Bread of Life, over 100 children depend entirely on this family for everything: care, provision, guidance, and love. What feels like a stretch in some homes... becomes a daily act of faith at BOL. And yet—the perspective remains the same:
To us, this is not an expense—but an investment. Seeds being sown, not burdens to bear.
Scripture reminds us: “Let us not grow weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” (Galatians 6:9)

Every act of care is a seed, and every sacrifice carries eternal weight.
We don’t always see the results right away. But just as seeds take time to grow, time reveals what our investment produces—often in ways we could never have imagined.
Children raised in stable, loving environments begin to build something different—healthy families, education, purpose, and faith.

Throughout Scripture, we see this pattern again and again—lives that began in hardship but were transformed through faithful investment. Moses, once a vulnerable child, became a leader chosen by God. Joseph, abandoned and betrayed, was used by God to save many. David, overlooked as a shepherd, became a king after God’s own heart.
Their beginnings were fragile—but their futures were shaped by those who invested in them.

For more than two decades, you have been part of this story— investing in children you may never meet. You gave when it required sacrifice. You invested without always seeing the outcome. And today, we are seeing the fruit.
Many of the children raised at BOL are now adults and have families of their own. They are raising their children with the same Christian values they received. What was once given in faith... is now multiplying across generations.
That investment continues today. And like any investment, it requires preparation and care in every season.
As spring arrives in the mountains of Broșteni, we enter one of the most important seasons of the year. Winters here are long and harsh, lasting from September to May. What we prepare now determines whether the children will be warm, fed, and secure in the months ahead. Scripture teaches us to act with diligence at the right time. And this is that time. “A cord of three strands is not quickly broken.” (Ecclesiastes 4:12) These three needs hold the home together.
Firewood - we need a total of 130 cubic meters costing $120 each to last through next winter. Food – we receive a significant amount of donated food, but still need to purchase some to provide nutritious meals for the children in our care. Electricity - with a large home like the one we have in Brosteni we avergage close to $1000/month.
This is your opportunity to invest in what God is building:
Each gift is more than support—it is an investment in a life, a future, and a legacy.
Many of these children may never meet you. But every day, they experience God’s love through what you give. They go to bed warm, wake up to a good meal, and grow up knowing they are not forgotten. And in their hearts, they give glory to God.
It is both our responsibility and our honor to stand in this role—together with you. Your sacrifice strengthens this work. Your faith sustains it. Your partnership makes it possible. This is the kind of investment that outlives all of us.
And every child we care for moves one step closer to fulfilling God’s purpose for their life.
Glory to Him.
