Summer Camp Report

At the Bread of Life Orphanage each summer comes with excitement as we prepare for camp for the children. For us the peaceful atmosphere of camp is a blessing we look forward to all year. It is a time of learning for the children as they hear new Bible stories and contemplate God’s principles for their life.

Children and staff alike look forward to this time to worship God surrounded by His beautiful creation. The camp is surrounded by mountains, forests, hills, and river, all of which God created for us to enjoy together. This year we had many children with us who had never been to camp. Among them were children from the poor gypsy community of Sabasa, a town close to the orphanage. Many of them had never been away from their village.

The theme for this year’s camp was “God’s plan for our life.” I chose this theme because this is a very im- portant question for our life. We are confronted with this from our early childhood. The children from the Bread of Life Orphanage certainly face the challenge of this question since their past has been filled with losses and disappointments. Imagine what it would be like for a child to ask “Why don’t I have food and clothing?” or “Why don’t I have parents like oth- er children?” These are the real life issues from the children’s past that staff at the orphanage must deal with every day in trying to get the children to love and trust God instead of turning to bitterness and despair. Camp is a part of that year round effort.

Each morning we had lessons and each evening we had a time for worship and prayer. During their week at camp the children discovered how different Bible characters discovered the plan God had for their life. God often allowed struggles in their life which led them to greater blessings later. Our children relat- ed to this common scenario from the Bible more than children who have never suffered. Their hearts were opened to understand how God always had a plan for their life even when things seemed all wrong. At our evening prayer time we try to have each child pray at least once. Many of the new children had never prayed before. It is a beautiful thing to witness a child thank- ing God for all his blessings for the first time!

We give thanks to God for camp and this time of fel- lowship which we look forward to all year! We also thank you for making the sacrifices to give them this chance to feel God’s love surrounded by his beautiful creation.

Darius’ Journey: A Story of Faith, Love, and Resilience Darius’ life has been shaped by resilience, unwavering faith, and the power of love. His mother passed away when he was very young, leaving a void that shaped much of his child hood. Growing up in a family that moved frequently due to financial struggles, he learned to find joy in the simple things—playing outside with friends and making the most of each moment. But everything changed when he arrived at the Bread of Life (BOL) Home.
