Our village family.

In past newsletters we have told you about our Meals on Wheels program which we run from the Bread of Life Orphanage. The older girls and our kitchen staff cook and prepare meals for some of the poor elderly in our village. The older boys deliver these meals on their bicycles. The children bring to these poor and lonely folks more than just food. They bring their time, their youthful presence, and their friendship. We encourage the children to be good ambassadors for Christ. The children in our program come from poor homes themselves, often worse than the ones they are now delivering aid to. The boys and girls in our children’s home do not feel poor when they are giving and bringing relief to others. Anitei Vasile is one of the elderly people the children visit. He lives by himself trying to get by on a tiny amount he receives from the government. For Vasile and many like him the children have become like family. They give the children just a smile and simple Thank You. In addition to the elderly we also take care of the poor families in our area that really need our help to make it. For all of these God receives the glory as it should be.

The world’s response has shifted over time — some still remain deeply engaged, while others have found it difficult to stay connected as the conflict continues.

Every day, elderly men and women in the Broșteni, Romania area who have no one to care for them receive a hot meal delivered right to their door. Along with the food comes a warm greeting, a listening ear, and a helping hand from Iosif, who faithfully travels nearly 15 kilometers by bicycle each day, regardless of the weather. For the elderly he visits, the meal meets a practical need, but the visit itself often means even more. It is a reminder that they are seen, valued, and not forgotten. What makes these daily visits especially meaningful is the story of the young man making them.

If you have ever held a newborn in your arms, you know that few moments in life can match it. Yet the Bible tells us there is one moment that does — the moment a soul is born again. Heaven itself rejoices. Recently, I experienced two such moments in a single church service.
