Mihaela, a fruit of our Youth Transition Program

Mihaela was just a small child when she came to the Bread of Life Orphanage in 2004. Growing up in a poor mountain village, this was a big change for her. When she came to us she found an opportunity for a brighter future. None of us knew back then what God had in store. Mihaela was always a very shy girl with a kind heart and willingness to help others. After some time, our children’s home began to feel like home to her. She was energetic and helpful with all our ministry projects and also very attentive during the Bible programs. As she opened up to God’s love and accepted Jesus Christ, her entire life changed. She was transformed on the inside, leaving behind scars from her childhood that many children never get past. She experienced God’s power to heal and change lives.

She was one of the first of the young people from the orphanage to move up to the Youth Transition Program in Bucharest. Even though the orphanage was now her home and the people there were her family, she accepted the challenge to become part of our program in Bucharest to finish her schooling. Knowing the Lord, her love for Him gave her the power to pursue God’s plan for her life. Her dream was to come back after her schooling and do for the children at the orphanage what others did for her.The shy little Mihaela was under great pressure and faced the challenge of being out of her comfort zone.

Satan hurt her as a young child thinking that this would cripple her for life. God had different plans. The scars that Satan left on her heart were healed  with God’s love. The once shy little girl finished high school and college in Bucharest. Years after her first day in our YTP she could look back and see God’s hand in her life. She made good on her plans to return to our village and help other little girls just like her escape Satan’s plans as well. She is now the group leader and mentor for a group of small girls at the orphanage. Her good Christian character and her love for the girls are helping them feel sheltered and protected. Their group is the happiest in the orphanage. It is impossible to be with them and not feel the joy they have. The YTP played a crucial role in Mihaela’s life, and will also be crucial in the lives of all the children she will influence in the future.

You have probably noticed in recent newsletters that we feel God is encouraging us to expand the Youth Transition Program. This is a program that we have been operating on a small scale for many years now. As more of the orphanage children come of age, we cannot let our limited resources in Brosteni keep them from realizing their full potential. When we see the good results with past YTP graduates, we are encouraged to attempt the impossible by expanding this program to welcome more youth from the Orphanage and even the Feeding Centers.

Our goal of purchasing two more apartments, for $75,000 each, might sound impossible. We have already seen, however, the impossible become possible with young people like Mihaela. For this reason, we are determined to pursue this bold plan and we need your help. We thank everyone who shares our vision and passion for the YTP and have donated funds for the purchase of new apartments. Please share this project with your church, friends, and family. With each donation we are one step closer. To God be the glory!

DSC07538I am very thankful to all the people who took care of me as a young girl and gave me the opportunity to go to high school and college. The time I spent in the Youth Transition Program, and the good counseling I received has blessed my life. My dream has always been to come back and work with the children at the Bread of Life Orphanage. I thank God for making my dream come true. Every day here is a new day with new things to learn. My job feels more like being part of a family. I am home. ” Mihaela N.

For many of us, the word “graduation” brings to mind robes, diplomas, and proud family photos. But for the teenagers who are part of the Bread of Life family, this moment is so much more. It marks a profound achievement, a courageous transition into adulthood, and a first real step toward independence. Their determination inspires us and fills us with joy and pride.

Each fall, children approach the first day of school with nervous anticipation or eager excitement. As a child, I loved school. I remember preparing with a list in hand, carefully choosing pencils and notebooks. We weren’t wealthy, but my parents always found a way. Sadly, many children in Romania don’t get to experience that joy. For them, choosing school supplies or packing a backpack is out of reach. Without basic tools, some can’t attend school at all—missing the education that could shape their future.
