The Perfect “Online” Gift

 

Due to the virus spreading across the world, most aspects of life have moved online. We have zoom meetings, online shopping, and even some churches are streaming online now. We all miss doing things in person and gathering together for mission projects such as the Shoebox project for the vulnerable children in Romania. However, we are excited to share that if present restrictions do not allow you to go to church or go shopping in the store to build your box, there’s good news.

This year we are moving this project “online. ” You can donate $20 online to have a shoebox gift created in Romania and given to children in need in Romania. Due to the current circumstances, we are also asking for an additional $10 to include sanitation items with the shoebox gift . These items are essential for children who do not have access to what we would consider “normal” sanitation and safety items. We want to make sure the children receive your shoebox gifts safely by Christmas. We are aware that there will be possible travel/shipping interruptions that could delay shoebox gifts from the U.S., so we ask that you prayerfully consider giving an “online” shoebox this year.

This pandemic has caused enough hurt in the lives of the children. What a big surprise for them to receive this gift, a true symbol of Christ’s love, and most likely the only one they will receive in 2020. We want to bless the children through these difficult times, and we are thankful we can use technology as an avenue for the “online” gift to serve these children.

So, you have two options: donate online for a shoebox gift to be put together in Romania by our team or the traditional route of building the shoebox yourself. If you are making shoeboxes to send, please use the form on page four and send them to our Pennsylvania office at

At the beginning of the journey, the word that best described these kids was helplessness. When you start life in an environment shaped by severe hardship, the future feels less like a promise and more like a threat. For the five young people in our community who graduated high school this summer, the starting line was a painful one. Behind their eyes lay realities too heavy for any child to carry: a girl who had to find her courage within an abusive family, and boys who grew up without the warm embrace of a mother. For them, education and finishing school seemed like a distant dream.
